Cross Atu - A (re)emergent candidate

My motives and intentions in running for CPM 2 align closely with those reasons that drew me to become a part of CPM 1.
Anyone who has read my CPM 1 platform or kept up on my posting history will find few surprises here. For everyone new to voting in the CPM elections, or who is not already familiar with my methods and intents to following should provide some context.

Playerbase, it's the life- blood of an online based game, its growth and stability are vital to the overall health of the game and communication between development and players is central to the role of a CPM, and to my focus as a CPM1 candidate.

The ability to find and communicate pertinent information to CCP regarding the game and the players is foundational to the work of a CPM. The inverse is also true, even with the NDA present it is important for a CPM to make best efforts to fill in the gaps between Dev posts and keep the community as informed as possible to maintain a high level of useful feedback from the players.

Emergent Game-play - The fundamental draw of a persistent sandbox game, regardless of type, is emergent game-play. Stated simply, it is the ability of players to make their own choices and define their own play experience.

A pillar of emergent game-play is player driven content, which requires robust tools to truly flourish.
I intend to continue to push for more data, more social management tools, and additional flexibility and customization both in and out of match so that players can get the most out of their time both in Dust 514, both now and when - hopefully - moving onto contemporary hardware, be that PS4, PC, or both.

Which brings me to platform integration. I play on both console and PC, I've enjoyed both experience and firmly believe in the idea of Dust 514 coming to both PC and PS4. While I acknowledge that this is a long term goal as any plans to port Dust require a high level of development energy I believe it a crucial element to the future of the game.

In short, I hope to foster development choices that are not only good for the game, but support an expanded community on both the PS4 and PC in the coming days.

I welcome questions from the community regarding my candidacy and my time as CPM 1. My general profile is included below for reference.

Cheers,
Cross Atu

STV - CPM voting explained.
CPM 1 Dust Vote Profile

Real Life Qualifications: Member of CPM 1. Prior community liaison/rep experience for MMORPG (Hellgate: London), including interacting with the community, gathering ideas and information and creation of executive summaries.

Communication:
Skype: Cross Atu
In Game Chat Channel: CPM2 ELECTION
Email: CrossAtu69[at]gmail[dot]com

Expectations:
To maximize CPM status as a stake-holder in the continuing development of Dust 514 via open communication with CCP, the CSM and fellow CPM members.
I have held a similar community position before as well as spent a term as CPM 1, and CPM 2 will no doubt contain some of the same long hours, stress and frustration, but it will also contain a rewarding opportunity to participate in seeing a game I've been playing since its early beta stages reach more of its potential. I do not expect to agree with every idea presented by my fellow CPMs, nor all of those selected by CCP, I do however expect to be able to work with them in a broad way for the health and value of the game regardless of our individual play styles, meta interests, or personalities.
In game, the mentality "if it's red it's dead" serves well in field combat, in chambers - as in the feedback forums - it is important to put dispassionate analysis, open discourse, and courtesy for ideas contrary to your own, at the forefront. If serving as a member of the CPM I will debate stronger for the choices I believe most support the game and the community, but I will do so with the firm intention not to let such debates degenerate into non-productive arguments.
The CPM is about the players voice not about any council members ego.

Experience with NDA’s: I have operated under NDA’s both in and outside of a CCP context.

Availability:Fluctuating, primary afternoons/evenings Mountain Standard Time.

DUST based Experience:

  • Member of CPM 1
  • Closed beta veteran.
  • Dabbled in most roles Dust has to offer.
  • Long time support logistics - part of the "I'll rep you for 0 WP" club.
  • Scout since closed beta
  • Quafe Sentinel extraordinaire
  • Reckless HAV driver
  • Leadership positions within Dust corps and alliances since closed beta
  • Participation in FW, PC, and tournament.
  • Extensive testing across specialized alts, including a 0 SP alt for direct testing of the NPE and raw stats/effect of base gear.
  • Recruitment and training of players new to Dust.

DUST Community Contributions:(examples include)

DUST Priorities:
- Continued Dust development
- Building more sandcastles (player choices) into the sandbox
- New Player Experience
- Supporting information exchange between CCP and the community.
- Improving PC, bugs, playability, and economic balance.
- Polishing game wide balance
- Supporting continuing community events.

Gaming Background: Gamer since 1987 across multiple genres including; RTS, FPS, RPG, MMO, roguelike and console titles (starting with Frogger on the Atari) too numerous to list.

Questions are, of course, welcome. I'm sure I can't have covered everything in the above posts.

CPM 2 wishlist (in no particular order

  • Port to (hopefully) PS4 and PC (this actually is my #1)
  • Pirate Suits
  • Shield Transporter (repair tool for shields)
  • Deployable shield generator
  • Racial and role vehicle variants, at least place holders.
  • Racial dropsuit skill polish/rework
  • Equipment overall, polish, and diversification.
  • Baseline 30 (better 60) frames per second in match.
  • PvE (did someone say Drones?)
  • Further polish on the NPE
  • Expanded Corp/social tools
  • Expanded daily missions (with addition of other mission types, for example weekly or by group)
  • Lifetime achievements/medals/ribbons with one time rewards including Loyalty Rank exp
  • An AV light weapon option for each race.

The above list is simply a collection of things I'd like to see, no comment is implied about their likelihood or feasibility.

I bet you don't remember me, but I sure remember you. Two words: Conspiratus Immortalis. Some of the fondest memories I have of this game I made while in that corp. Even back then, I think everyone could see you had long term vision, something this game needs. Personally I never had the chance to congratulate your for being elected CPM1. So congratulations for that and for what you have achieved so far!!

Now, I'll stop boring our public and ask your opinion about a crossroad Dust 514 is facing right now

Like you, probably most of us think Dust514 needs a port to next gent to have a future.
All of us can also agree that this game still has a lot of polish and balance to be done.

So would you rather port dust 514 now to avoid losing more players, with the risk of getting bad reviews once it lands on next gen (we already learned we can only launch once,) or wait until the game is polished to make a safe landing in next gen, at the cost of more players and at the risk of losing the game if it takes too long?

Keep adding your 0.02 ISK

Destroyer! Big smile Of course I remember you, we had good times in the Conspiratus days and I was actually just wondering earlier this week if you were still around at all. Great to hear from you.

Now, on to your question.

I believe that a port sooner rather than later is important, however, minimum standards also need to be met.
For me balance and polish are things that happen over time so they don't present a bar, but performance in match (something Dust suffers in, as we've all seen from time to time) is very important.
If I were calling the shots on this - which of course I am not lol - I would push hard for better in match game play on things like motion and frame per second then port with that foundation leaving the rest of balance and polish to be iterated on over time as we've seen CCP Rattati and team already doing via patches and hotfixes.

If I haven't covered the bases on your question let me know, I'd be happy to elaborate.

Look me up in game sometime, we can catch a squad Smile

Cheers,
Cross

My 1st vote goes to Cross Atu.

We may not always see eye to eye, but your .02 Isk have always been on point and tactfully articulated. I can think of no candidate past or present better able to encourage dialogue/debate and better suited to represent this community.

Thank you for your service to date, and best of luck in this campaign. o7

I absolutely, in the highest manner possible, endorse this candidate for CPM2. Having worked with him for the last year, and having hung out with him during Fanfest a fair bit, I can absolutely say he is one of the best people for this job. o7

CPM1 Elect. Thanks for all your support. soraya@biomassed.net for ideas, thoughts, and feedback.

Our conversations, and yes debates, throughout my CPM 1 term have certainly underscored to me that you're not one to shy from speaking your mind or using data to challenge ideas and proposals. I'm grateful for your continued support but also for your help in keeping me honest and on point with dialogue, debate, and constructive input.

Looking forward to folks like yourself continuing to challenge and debate ideas with me if I am elected for a second term.

Thanks for your endorsement and for the work you put in during our term as CPM 1.
While we have not agreed on every point those who follow my attitudes know I consider that to be an asset among the members of the CPM, and your passion for things like getting the CPM 2 election squared away cannot be denied.
Keep up the good work from the press box over on Biomassed and hopefully I'll be able to give an interview at some point on the contrasts between CPM 1 & 2 (the outside the NDA aspects of course).

Cheers,
Cross

Thanks for the endorsement Brush, and for all the information you've provided regarding DS and other subjects during the tenure of CPM 1.

Thanks for the vote of confidence and relinking those Shayz. I've appreciated your contributions and conduct in my CPM feedback threads this term and hope we can continue to work for the improvement of Dust during the course of CPM 2.

One thing I can note right out of the gate that I'd add to the content of the above videos - even without having re-watched them recently - is that bandwidth needs a visual indicator within the UI. Guessing how much BW you have total, and how much remaining, isn't an add to the enjoyment of play. Complexity is something I'm all for when it adds possibility to the player sandbox but to reach that kind of positive complexity we need information in the hands of players, especially in match information and things like a robust UI covering the relevant bases is in my view fundamental.

Glad you brought these up o7

Thanks very much for your support, hopefully if elected to CPM 2 I will continue to be a community representative who earns that confidence. To that end please to feel free to contact me with any feedback and concerns throughout the upcoming term, or at least (if I do not win re-election) to participate in any threads/discussions I have going in the feedback section.

Cheers o7

I suddenly realised, that though what I think of Cross and the work he's done as a CPM member should be obvious to anyone I have spoken to about anything even remotely CPM related, I totally have not remembered to say anything here...

CPM2 needs to have Cross. Period. So you all better vote for him. Multiple times, if possible.
